SEALIONS SPLIT GAMES ON THE ROAD
Saturday Jun 27, 2009
The San Diego SeaLions (Women's Premier Soccer) took 3 of 6 points on the road this weekend, coming from behind to beat West Coast Football Club 2-1 on Saturday night before falling 5-0 to the LA Rampage in Encino on Sunday.

"The ladies played with huge heart in both matches," said SeaLion head coach Paul Dougherty.  "Despite a very long weekend of travelling, they never quit."

On Saturday the SeaLions gave up a penalty kick goal and fell behind shortly before the half, only to see midfielder Guiliana Longmire (USD) score the equalizer in injury time.  Then in the 75th minute Maki Okada (TGU) connected with a cross by Heidi Armstrong (Houghton College) to seal the victory for San Diego.

Sunday afternoon's rematch with Rampage did not go as well for the SeaLions. Injuries to Tracy Schuster (UCSD) and Tessa Lennala (UC Riverside) on Saturday took their toll as the SeaLions were unable to repeat their early-season 1-0 victory over Los Angeles.  San Diego fought gamely, and the match was scoreless until LA's Kristy Krohn scored in the 22nd and 39th minutes.

"We're still in the thick of the playoff race," added Dougherty, "The score of Sunday's match is not reflective of how well we played, and we expect to be battling for trophies come July."

The SeaLions head to Santa Clarita next Sunday, June 28 to play the Rooks, and return home for a critical weekend against archrivals and league-leading SD United and Ajax on July 11th and 12th. For more information, please visit www.SeaLionSoccer.com.
