SEALIONS KEEP PACE WITH DIVISION LEADERS
Tuesday Jun 30, 2009

Tessa Lennala scored 2 goals and assisted on a third last night, as the San Diego SeaLions dominated the Santa Clarita Rooks 4-0.   The win keeps the third-place SeaLions in the thick of the WPSL  Pacific-South division race.

"The ladies played confident, determined soccer and got the job done at both ends of the field," said San Diego coach Paul Dougherty.  "It's nice to get such a solid win so far from home at this point in the season."

Newcomer Katie Finley (Stanford) scored her first career WPSL goal and added a second in the 78th minute to crush any hope of a comeback for Santa Clarita.  Lennala (UC Riverside), the SeaLions' leading scorer in 2008, now has 4 goals this season.

Goalkeepers Lu Snyder (San Diego State) and Casey Read (McNeese State) combined for San Diego's third shutout of the season.

The SeaLions (7-3) are now just 4 points off the Division lead and 2 points from a playoff spot.  They face their toughest weekend in years when they host crosstown rival and 2nd-Place SD United on July 11, followed by Division-leading and 2008 WPSL Champions Ajax-L.A. on Sunday, July 12.
