Katie's Cardinals vs. Courtney's Bruins: UCLA takes on Stanford in the 2009 NCAA College Cup
Monday Nov 30, 2009
SeaLion defender Courtney Lovelace's top-seeded UCLA women's soccer team earned a spot in the NCAA College Cup for the seventh consecutive season on Saturday. The Bruins posted a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over No. 2 Portland in a Quarterfinal showdown at Drake Stadium.

UCLA (21-2-1) will now face SeaLion striker, Katie Finley's undefeated Stanford (24-0) team on Friday at 2:30 p.m. PT in College Station, Texas. The match will be televised live on ESPN2 and ESPNU. The Cardinals advanced with a 3-1 victory over Boston College on Friday evening.

Next Friday's UCLA-Stanford NCAA Semifinal will be a rematch of an Oct. 18 game won by the Cardinals, 2-0. That was the only time that the two teams have played this year.

The winner will play North Carolina (21-3-1) or Notre Dame (21-3-1) in the final on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT, to be shown on ESPN2. North Carolina and Notre Dame meet Friday at 5 p.m. PT.

Lindsey Holman-Kelly's Deamon Deaconswere knocked out of contention by North Carolina on Friday afternoon at Fetzer Field in the quarterfinals. The loss ends one of the most successful seasons in program history. Wake Forest advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and also tied the school record with 16 wins in a season. Wake also broke the school record for shutouts in a season with 15 clean sheets in 2009.
