SEALIONS TRY TO GET ON TRACK!
Friday May 30, 2008
SAN DIEGO – It doesn't get any easier for San Diego's oldest women's soccer club.  After escaping opening weekend with one point, the San Diego WFC SeaLions will face cross-town rival SD United this Saturday in what is the first-ever San Diego Women's Soccer "Derby" match.

"The first 20 minutes last weekend it looked as though we'd score 8 goals and be sitting in first place right now," said SeaLions coach Sean Bowers, after his SeaLions had taken an early 1-0 lead against West Coast FC and peppered at least 4 other shots off the woodwork.  Instead they surrendered 3 second-half goals and lost 4-2 Saturday, before earning a 1-1 tie on Sunday against LA Rampage.  "Nevertheless, we proved that we have the quality to win the league."

Fay DeLeon (SDSU) scored for San Diego, and goalkeeper Lu Snyder (SDSU) made 14 saves including five in the last 10 minutes, to preserve the draw with the Rampage.  Sherice Anders (WUSA Boston Breakers) and Danica Carey (Nebraska) each scored for the SeaLions on Saturday.

The SeaLions currently stand fifth in the WPSL Pacific-South Division, while Rampage and United are tied at the top of the Table with 4 points.  United is coming off a stunning 1-0 penalty-kick win last Sunday over 2007 Division Champion and undefeated Ajax.

Saturday's match kicks off at 6:00 p.m at Valhalla High School Stadium.  Though it's an "away" match for the SeaLions, all SDWFC SeaLions Season Passes will be honored for this game and at all SeaLions and United home contests in 2008.
