SeaLions Score Early to Down Claremont 3-1
Monday Jun 28, 2010

The San Diego SeaLions improved their playoff chances with a 3-1 victory over the Claremont Stars on Sunday afternoon.

The SeaLions notched a goal on their first shot in the game in the 2nd minute when Laura Linehan hit a through-ball to Michelle Spacciapolli, who then buried the ball into the back of the net. Nine minutes later, the duo paired up again to give San Diego a 2-0 lead, as Linehan knocked in a Spacciapolli cross.

Claremont answered back in stoppage time just before the end of the first half, However San Diego controlled most of the play and the Stars never mounted another serious challenge. The SeaLions finished the scoring in the 89th minute on an Alex Webber goal. Heidi Armstrong directed a pass across the box and the oncoming Webber slotted the ball into the goal.

San Diego, who is only two points behind the first place Ajax America and LAFC Chelsea, concludes the 2010 campaign with two home games on July 10 against The Rooks and July 18 versus Ajax America. The SeaLions will most likely have top win both matches to have a chance at a playoff berth. Both games will be played at Manchester Stadium on the campus of Cathedral High School.
