SeaLions Host Western Regional Playoffs
July 16, 2012
The WPSL Pacific-South Division Champion San Diego SeaLions (5-1-0) will host the Women's Premier Soccer League Western Regional Playoffs this weekend at Cathedral Catholic High School. Semifinals will be played on Saturday, with the Regional final on Sunday. The Western Regional winners will advance to the WPSL Final-Four National Championships in Florida.
The SeaLions clinched a berth back on July 7, but with tight title races taking place in the three other Western divisions, the team had to wait until the results from this past weekend's games were determined to find out who would be joining them in San Diego.
Salt Lake United (6-0-2), which is affiliated with MLS power Real Salt Lake tied both Phoenix teams to claim the Big Sky-North title. California Storm took the Pacific-North berth with a 3-1 win over North Bay FC Wave, and a 3-3 draw between West Coast Wildkats and Bay Area Breeze. Spokane Shine came out on top in the Northwest with wins over Emerald City and Oregon on Friday and Saturday nights, and a draw between Emerald City and Issaquah on Sunday. Spokane dropped out of the playoffs late Monday afternoon, opening a spot for second-place Issaquah out of Seattle.
